Open days on farms and windmills

This weekend has thousands of opportunities to explore old building and learn country crafts.

More than 1,500 events will take place this weekend to introduce the public to countryside crafts, farms and windmills.

The 11th Journée du Patrimoine de Pays is organised by tourist offices, associations across France and last year attracted 200,000 visitors.

It takes place over June 14-15.

Highlights include a free guided visit around an old waterwheel, the Moulin à Foulon in Gaumier in the Vendée.

In the Dordogne there are free guided tours around a ceramics factory at Angoisse on June 15 from 13.30.

Visitors can also see demonstrations of pottery-making and taste local food.
