Will the strike action continue?

One of the main transport unions for the Paris metro and train network the RATP says it is ready to continue strike action until Christmas.

Unions in different work sectors will decide each evening whether to continue action and must give at least 48 hours’ notice. Travellers are advised to check the SNCF and RATP websites daily from 17:00.

Transport is the most affected sector in tomorrow’s action.

Easyjet has cancelled 233 flights including 77 to the UK. Air France has cancelled 30% of its domestic flights and 15% of its medium-haul flights. Traffic will not return to normal until Saturday, as unions are calling on ground staff to continue action.

Transport of goods will be heavily affected as the unions are calling for an unlimited strike on the roads and road blockages.

The police are also set to follow the strike as several of their unions have called for the possibility of repeated action throughout December. This action could include refusing to write fines, the symbolic closure of police stations or undertaking extra controls, such as at motorway tolls, to highlight their protest.

Workers in other sectors will only be on strike on Thursday. Around 55% of teachers are concerned, as well as lawyers, firefighters, hospitals, La Poste employees and the energy supplier EDF.
