Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Landes are still under an orange weather alert for high river levels and flooding following days of heavy rain.

The current weather conditions have already severely affected the Pays Basque and surrounding areas, where a landslide has submerged a car and several people have had to be evacuated from their homes.

Gers had also been under an orange warning but has now been downgraded to yellow. Hautes-Pyrénées, Haute-Garonne, Gironde and Lot-et-Garonne are also on yellow alert.

French weather service Météo France states that “In Dax, the river Adour will overflow to a damageable extent on Sunday evening and could reach a maximum level of 4.7-5.1m during the day on Monday.”

The orange weather alert is expected to continue throughout the day and into the early hours of tomorrow (December 14).

In north France, Seine-Maritime, Yvelines, Eure, Val d’Oise, Oise, Aisne, Ardennes, Nord and Pas-de-Calais are also on yellow alerts for flooding, while other departments are under avalanche warnings.

You can follow the level of rivers around France on the government approved information service Vigicrues.

In areas affected by flooding, there may be road, rail and electricity supply disruption.

People should stay away from bodies of water and avoid driving down a road which is even partially flooded. If possible, they should not go down into cellars or basements and should move ground-floor possessions upstairs.
