‘Intelligent’ case can weigh itself

French luggage firm has come up with a new ‘connected’ suitcase with a raft of high-tech features

A FRENCH luggage firm has come up with what it calls Pluggage – a ‘connected’ suitcase, stuffed with technology.

If you thought bags just had to hold your belongings, you are behind the times – Delsey's Pluggage, which has just been tested as a prototype, connects via the internet to a smartphone for a raft of extra features.

It sends information to the phone on your trip and flights, it weighs itself, lets you know if it is safely onboard and then after the trip tells you whether or not someone has opened it.

To help you relax at your destination it even has a pop-up speaker to play tunes saved on your phone.

The Pluggage is, however, not the only form of “intelligent” luggage coming our way.

Air France and Lufthansa are working on a tag with a GPS transmitter that can be placed in your case to locate it in case it gets lost. American firm Bluesmart is also working on a case with built-in GPS.

Meanwhile, another idea in development is a case called Hop! which is motorised and remote controlled so you do not need to carry or pull it yourself…
