National weather forecaster Météo-France has placed 13 departments in France on orange alert for storms.

The departments are Cantal, Haute-Loire, Loire, Puy-de-Dôme, Allier, Gers, Tarn-et-Garonne, Lot-et-Garonne, Lot, Dordogne, Corrèze, Haute-Vienne and Creuse.

Strong violent gusts and heavy rain are expected this evening. There is also a risk of hail in these departments and wind gusts could reach 100 kph.

71 other departments are placed in yellow as storms are also expected after the peak of hot weather this week. This includes the Nord, Pas-de-Calais, Calvados, Gironde, Charente-Maritime, Vosges, Isère…

Yesterday temperatures reached 35 degrees in Paris, 34 degrees in Toulouse and 35 degrees in Lyon.

The storm alert is currently in place until tomorrow 6:00 but the situation in the south-west should calm down during the night, says Météo-France.
