Avocat Julien Fouchet is awaiting a court decision early next year as to whether his case in the European courts may proceed to a full hearing.
He is arguing that the Brexit referendum was illegal because it excluded long-term expats.He is also backing a challenge led by philosopher AC Grayling which argues article 50 was not triggered properly. “These are the last legal chances to avoid Britons definitively losing their EU citizenship on March 29, 2019 or at best after a transition period.”
- Cycling anti-Brexit campaigner Paul Hearn, from Charente, has received a government reply to his latest petition asking for an MPs’ vote on whether Brexit should be cancelled, after it received over 10,000 signatures (tinyurl.com/Paul-petition). He said he now hoped to achieve 100,000 signatures triggering an MPs’ debate.
- Connexion has not had an update from the office of France’s foreign affair’s minister following our letter to President Macron about Britons in France after Brexit. The president’s office said Jean-Yves Le Drian would respond if France had any further message for Britons regarding France’s attitude in the case of ‘no deal’. Number 10 Downing Street has thanked us for our letter to Theresa May about ‘no deal’ fears and ring-fencing, saying that it will be passed to the Department for Exiting the EU.
