Paris bans outdoor exercise between 10:00 and 19:00

Paris is banning outside sports between 10:00 and 19:00 during confinement, it has been announced.

This new measure will be in place tomorrow, April 8.

Paris’ mayor, Anne Hidalgo, and Paris police’s prefect, Didier Lallement, said they had to “reinforce the rules”.

Physical activity can be done outside only early in the morning or after 19:00 in the evening, when there are less people in the streets.

This means exercising is allowed between 19:00 and 10:00.

People going out for a walk alone, or with children, are still allowed to do it during the day, as long as it is less than one kilometre away from home and less than an hour.

This decision comes after reports showing that many Parisians were outside this Sunday.

However, Mrs Hidalgo praised the efforts made by the residents so far. She added that she wanted "to avoid any risk of relaxation of the confinement measures by an increase in the number of people in the public space, due to the mild weather."
