Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen win first round of presidential election, first poll claims

Centrist former economy minister set to face far right candidate in final round for presidency on May 7

Centrist Emmanuel Macron (En Marche) won 23.7% of the votes and far right candidate Marine Le Pen 21.7% in the first round of the presidential election, first estimates in an Ipsos/Sopra Steria poll for France Télévisions and Radio France claim.

The two will face each other on May 7.

Official figures are now awaited at around 22h.
