Nantes prepares for its first course de garçons de café

If you stop for a coffee in the centre of Nantes on Sunday and the service is a little quicker than normal, it may be your server is warming up for a challenge.

Waiting staff from numerous venues are set to take part in the city's first course de garçons de café in the afternoon. It is a 1.7km race taking in Commerce, Royale and Graslin areas of the city, including the steps of the passage Pommeraye, which they must complete while carrying a loaded tray in one hand.

The fun and games starts at 12noon at the Place du Commerce, with the big race set to start at 3pm. The event has been organised by business groups in the city, including the l’association de commerçants Plein centre.

The winner will qualify for the national race in Limoges on September 30.
