Where can we go on holiday from France?

Summer is here and thoughts turn to holidays but this year restrictions governing where you can visit are in place. We take a look at where you can travel to from France.

Travelling within the 27 countries of the European Union is now possible.

Currently, restrictions are still in place with the UK as the UK government imposed a 14-day obligatory quarantine for all arrivals as of June 8 and France has in turn been asking UK visitors to observe a voluntary quarantine as a reciprocal measure. The quarantine requirement is set to be lifted on July 10 for visitors from France to and from England, but so far the other countries of the UK have not changed their rules.

The previous rule of quarantine for travellers going to Spain from France by air has now been lifted and people can circulate freely.

Internationally outside of the EU

Since July 1, it has also been possible to travel to 15 non-EU countries. France has published a list of countries where the epidemic is considered to be under control and to where people can travel. This list is set to be revised and updated periodically during summer, with an update planned for mid-July.

Currently, it is possible to travel from France to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Thailand, Tunisia, Uruguay, South Korea and Rwanda. Borders are still closed with the United States, Brazil, Turkey, and Russia.

It should be noted, despite being on the list Australia’s borders remain closed. Only Australian citizens, residents and immediate family members can enter the country.

Within France

It is possible to go on holiday freely within France.

Airlines such as easyJet and Air France offer different routes to travel from Paris to Nice, Paris to Bordeaux, Paris to Toulouse, from Lyon to Biarritz and Nantes, from Toulouse to Nantes. There are also tickets available for Corsica from Lyon, Toulouse, and Paris with easyJet.

There will be health and temperature checks at airports and you must wear a mask at the airport and in the plane.

If you travel within France, you must book train tickets in advance. Wearing a mask is obligatory on public transport, including trains.

Coaches such as Blablabus and Flexibus have also resumed, with a limited number of routes set to progressively increase during summer.

It is also possible to travel to overseas French territories such as Guadeloupe. There will be no quarantine on arrival from July 10 but a Covid-19 test must be undertaken before leaving the country to show to the authorities upon arrival.
