Up to 38 million people in France will soon benefit from an exceptional €100 “inflation compensation” payment aimed at helping residents on modest incomes to manage rises in the prices of fuel, energy and other goods.

The €100 aid will be free of taxes and other social charges and will be paid on an individual basis rather than to households.

To be eligible for the bonus, a person’s income must be less than €2,000 per month before income tax is deducted. The aid will be allocated based on people’s income in the month of October and will not take extras such as Christmas bonuses into account.

This applies to workers, jobseekers, retirees and people who are unable to work because of medical reasons, and includes recipients of the work welfare benefit Revenue Solidarité Active, apprentices and students who are not economically dependent on their parents.

The bonus will be paid in:

  • December for private sector workers, the self-employed, farmers and students on means-tested grants

  • January at the latest for public sector workers

  • January for jobseekers, recipients of the parcours contractualisé d’accompagnement vers l’emploi et l’autonomie (PACEA) and some other unemployment benefits, people who are unable to work for health reasons, and students not on grants but receiving contributions towards their accommodation

  • February for retirees with French pension income

Those who are eligible for the payment do not need to do anything to receive it and will be transferred the money directly.
