ARMED thieves raided the safe at a supermarket near Lyon on Saturday - and made off with a stash of one and two centime coins.
The two masked men burst into the Carrefour Contact store in Villeurbanne and ordered staff to open the safe. They also stole an employee's handbag to carry their loot.
Le Progrès newspaper said all the thieves had to take were several dozen rolls of bronze coins. The supermarket estimates its loss at "a few hundred euros".
The two robbers remain on the run and police have opened an investigation.
