Help paying for work on private septic tank
A recent Connexion article referred to money from SPANC to help with work on a cesspit. What is available? J.K.
SPANC refers to the local authority body (connected to the mairie) responsible for checking that septic tanks at homes meet the correct standards and also advising and helping people who are installing or renovating septic tanks. It stands for service public d’assainissement non-collectif.
SPANCs do not give out money directly but if you have a septic tank built or renovated via the local authority (as opposed to a private company) then you may benefit from partial funding, notably from the regional agence de l’eau or from the departmental council. You can obtain further information and contact details for your SPANC from the mairie. If you have work done via the local authority, you may also benefit from being able to pay in instalments.
Otherwise, generally, if installing or renovating a septic tank, you may be able to benefit from a means-tested grant from the Agence Nationale pour l’Amélioration de l’Habitat (anah.fr). Renovations also benefit from a reduced VAT rate of 10%.
An Eco-prêt à taux zéro (interest-free loan up to €10,000) may be offered from participating banks towards the renovation of tanks at main homes built before January 1, 1990. The caisse des allocations familiales and pension bodies may also offer loans..
