CITY of Nice mayor Christian Estrosi is enforcing a “charter” against noisy or “demonstrative” weddings.
The UMP Party mayor and MP plans to ban from June 1 a range of boisterous behaviour including: shouting and whistling, waving flags (“notably foreign ones”), unauthorised traditional music groups, chaotic parking around the mairie and interrupting traffic on the nearby Promenade des Anglais to “dance or to parade with banners”.
A wedding charter will be given to all future married couples before the ceremony, reminding them of these rules, which they will have to sign and stick to.
If they do not, and depending on how serious the behaviour is deemed to be, then they could be faced with the ceremony being put off to another time within 24 hours.
In the high season – May to October – 25-30 weddings are celebrated each Saturday at the Hotel de Ville in Nice in the historic Old Town area.
