37 people trapped in stuck cable car

Video captures dramatic helicopter rescue of tourists trapped high above Isère capital of Grenoble

THIRTY-SEVEN people were stuck for more than three hours in a cable car high above the Isère capital Grenoble yesterday evening.

They eventually had to be rescued by helicopter, as this video from France 3 shows.

High winds caused one of the cables to slip out of the drive mechanism, forcing operators to immediately stop the cars.

Before it could be fixed, however, people stuck in the cable cars had to be rescued.

No injuries were reported.

France 3 reports that this was the first such incident since 1976, the year the cars were commissioned.
