EU provides colour-coded Covid map for Europe

Users can click to see travel information country by country and how well the spread of the coronavirus epidemic is being contained

The EU has provided new coordinated information on travel restrictions and levels of new cases of Covid-19 across member states.

You can find full details by visiting this link and choosing a country name from the list.

The page will show a map of the country, coloured according to how well the coronavirus pandemic is under control, from red, the worst, to orange, or green. The classifications will be updated each week.

A grey colour means there is insufficient information available or too few tests being done to provide reliable data.

If you then hover your mouse over the map and use the wheel on the mouse, you can scroll out of the map to see the whole of Europe.

The UK is still shown on the map – along with France it is one of the red-coloured zones – but no detailed information is provided on it.

For other countries you can see on the panel to the right of the country map for details on any restrictions on coming in. Click the round symbols to see information for coming by car, train etc.

The European Commission said it was part of a new common approach to travel measures.

Speaking on arrival for the second day of the European Council meeting in Brussels today, the group’s president, Charles Michel, said the EU was “taking the situation extremely seriously”.

“We see everywhere in Europe a resurgance of the epidemic and the necessity to accelerate cooperation between member states, especially when it comes to testing and tracing,” he said.

“We have also decided to intensify the coordination at the heads of government level to make sure that progress can be made as fast as possible, to contain this epidemic, to push back this threat that is hanging over the world and the European Union.”
