Where are EES checks done?

Learn where and when EES checks occur

If you are entering from outside the Schengen area, the checks usually apply from the moment you enter.

To serve as an example, if you come from New York and land at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport, the checks are in Paris, or if you come to Nice from Leeds via Amsterdam, they are completed in Amsterdam.

The exception is if you are coming from the UK via one of the ‘juxtaposed controls’ facilities, which include Dover ferry port, the Eurotunnel terminal at Folkestone and St Pancras station for the Eurostar.

In this case, when travelling to France the EES process are carried out in the UK.

When leaving the area the checks will apply at the Schengen area’s external borders, including UK-bound checks at Paris’s Gare du Nord, the Coquelles Eurotunnel terminal and the port of Calais.
