Which children will need a DCEM?

Find out if your visiting children require travel documents

I am British and live in France but my two boys, aged 19 and 15, live in the UK. Do I need to get DCEM paperwork for them when they visit in the holidays?

No, DCEMs – France’s young people’s travel documents for foreign residents without their own residency cards – only concern young people who live full-time in France.

The British Embassy in Paris has said it will be important for foreign (non-EU) families in France, such as British and American people, to obtain DCEMs to ensure the young people are not registered in the EES system as visitors as it may cause complications later.

Your sons should instead register in EES as they do not live in the Schengen area.
