How can I get a prescription renewed if not well enough to visit doctor?
GPs may make home visits if the situation calls for it
My prescription for regular medicines ran out and my doctor refused to do a home visit or post out a new one, even though I could not visit him as I am elderly and it is too far to walk. What can I do?
A GP is not obliged to make home visits, though they may do if the situation calls for it and they have time in their schedule. They do not send out prescriptions in the post.
If the situation is an emergency because your health will be at risk if the medication stops, you could call 15 and explain the situation. They should be able to find a solution.
If you can visit your local pharmacy, be aware that pharmacists are also able to take the initiative to renew supplies of a patient’s regular medication up to three times over three months if they cannot immediately get to see their doctor.
If there is no local doctor who is more easily accessible to you, you could also ask your doctor if he can offer occasional appointments over webcam, in which case he should also be able to supply prescriptions over the internet, eg. by private message or email, afterwards.
