Who covers the medical costs in the event of a car accident?

Who covers the medical costs if I am hurt in a car crash: car insurance companies or my health insurance?

As a general rule it is your state health insurance and mutuelle that covers your health expenses in this case. 

However, the Assurance Maladie has the right, in the case of an accident that was caused by a third party, to make a claim from the other party or their insurer, and asks that in this case you declare the nature of the accident to your Cpam so as to make this possible. 

This can cover any expenses related to the accident, whether it is doctors’ consultations, x-rays, the part of any sick pay covered by social security, physiotherapist sessions, etc.
