French banks should send verification codes through email

Another reader highlights struggle of needing a smartphone to use their bank account

Needing a smartphone to conduct banking operations is a nuisance, with emails much preferred

To the Editor,

I read today about a reader's difficulty with verification requirements sent by their bank and it is something I fully sympathise with.

I never wanted a 'smartphone' and was quite happy with my basic little mobile as a safety measure in case of a car breakdown, etc.

It did not work in my house due to thick stone walls and marching up the garden was the only way to get any signal on it.

However, as 2G was being discontinued I was obliged to get the cheapest smartphone I could find.

I resent this as the SMS verifications from Crédit Agricole do not always come through and I am left having to go through the rigmarole of not being able to authorise requests.

I also now have to lug around the relatively weighty smartphone in my bag.

What is the problem with emailing verification codes? Surely it cannot be more difficult, as the original reader states.

Kind regards,

S.W. (via email)
