A police inquiry has been opened after a British man living in Paris was admitted to hospital in a critical condition, after having reportedly been stabbed twice in the torso by a would-be thief.

The man told medical staff at the Necker Hospital (AP-HP) that he was confronted by a man who was trying to rob him in front of his home on rue de Falguière in the 15th arrondissement overnight on Sunday October 26.

Upon fighting with the man, he received two stab wounds to the torso area, he said, according to reports by Paris Match.

He said that the attacker had been dressed in black.

The injured man was found in critical condition in the car park of the Necker Hospital, which is also in the 15th arrondissement.

A taxi driver, who said he had brought the victim to hospital, told investigators that he saw the victim fighting with another man on the street. The injured man then managed to get in the taxi, and the driver immediately took him to hospital.

Police investigating the incident visited the victim’s home and found his front door key still in the lock.

Born in 1991, the stabbed man reportedly does not speak good French.
