Calling budding writers and artists of all ages

Hurry to enter our new challenge - the deadline is April 30! Fun for all the family. Write, draw, sketch, scribble away...

We have another great competition for the writers and artists of all ages among you. Unleash your creative talents during the home confinement period!

Following the success of The Connexion's Room-Sized Travelogue challenge (the three winning entries for this will be revealed and published in the May Connexion) - we are now offering budding writers and artists the chance to win a book of their choice from the Writers' and Artists' Yearbook series.

The Writers' and Artists' Yearbook is a go-to resource for writers of all styles. It includes advice from published authors, contact details for agents, publishers and much more.

Aspiring writers and artists can find all sorts of help and advice about honing their craft and getting published at writersandartists.co.uk

There is a Writers' and Artists' Yearbook for children's writers and artists. Or you could choose their Guide to Getting Published, or their Guide on How to Hook an Agent.

The competition is simple: write, draw or paint anything you like - he content is open to your imagination.

So, get painting, drawing, sketching and scribbling; your imagination is the only limit! The subject is completely open to your imagination.

With art, anything from an abstract in charcoal to a portrait of the family hamster in cross-stitch or a nursery rhyme poster is good - it doesn't matter.

You can also get writing. Poems, stories, personal opinions, the first few pages of a novel, a sonnet, a motto, a letter, a tribute, an amusing alphabet book or first reader - if you can think it up, write it down. Word limit is 1,000 words.

Email your entries as word docs or jpgs (you can photograph your artwork with your mobile phone if you don't have a camera or a scanner) to news@connexionfrance.com

There are categories for all ages so the whole family can get creative and enter the competition (ages at April 1, 2020):

  • Crèche and maternelle: 0-5 years old
  • Primaire: 6-10 years old
  • Collège: 11-15 years old
  • Lycée: 16-18 years old
  • Universitaire (de la vie!): 19 and over

Artwork should be 2D (no installations, land art, videos etc) and submitted by email in jpg format. The quality of the jpg will not be judged, so there are no extra points for getting a scan rather than taking a picture with a mobile phone.

There will be four prizes: best writing for adults; best writing for children; best artwork for adults; best artwork for children.

There will also be special kudos awarded and publication in print or online for outstanding entries from each age group.

The best entries will be printed online or in a gallery on our Facebook page and the two overall winners, picked by the editor of the Writers' and Artists' Yearbook (editor's choice is final) from all the categories will win the Writers' and Artists' book of their choice. Deadline for entries is midnight April 30, 2020.
