Groupe Casino, which runs Vival, Spar, Naturalia, Franprix and Casino stores, has unveiled a long-term plan to open more than 400 new outlets across France.

The plan, called Renouveau 2030, includes:

  • Around 200 new Franprix stores

  • 20 additional Naturalia shops

  • Over 210 new outlets under Casino, Vival and Spar, all expected by 2030

Where the new stores will be located

For consumers in many French regions - particularly Île-de-France, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes - the expansion will increase the availability of convenience supermarkets and urban grocery shops according to French media actu.fr.

The regional focus will be:

  • Franprix: mostly in Île-de-France, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

  • Casino / Vival / Spar: urban-area focused, mainly in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

  • Naturalia: 20 new shops announced, regions not yet specified

Revamped stores

Groupe Casino is also investing in convenience-format retail and food-service. Beyond new openings, the plan calls for full renovation of its network: all Monoprix stores are to be refurbished by 2030, and 800 Franprix outlets will roll out a modernised “Oxygène” concept.

The group frames this as a response to changing consumer habits, moving away from large hypermarkets towards proximity retail, quick-meal solutions and daily-life services.

The announcement comes as rival Auchan plans to rebrand and franchise its remaining supermarkets under the Intermarché and Netto banners, a move that could see prices fall by 6 to 8 percent.
