Eurostar trains delayed due to Brexit protests
Passengers using the Eurostar at the Gare du Nord are today being warned of long delays due to action by customs officials at the Channel ports.
Since Monday customs agents have been protesting in advance of Brexit by strictly applying the extra checks that would be necessary after a no-deal, resulting in tailbacks of lorries heading to Britain.
Today again traffic jams are reported on roads including the A16, A25 and A26 as agents apply rigorous checks at Calais and at the Channel Tunnel protesting against what they see as insufficient resources being put into preparing for no-deal.
Eurostar notes it expects “sizeable delays and congestion at Paris Gare du Nord” and says that this is out of its control.
The firm advises people to travel today only if it is strictly necessary; it will be possible to exchange your ticket or have a refund if necessary.
If travelling however, it says you must go to the departure gate at the usual scheduled time, otherwise you risk not being able to board.
