Extradition plea on Dordogne murder
A 30-year-old man faces extradition to France over the murder of a Briton – although he could still face trial in the UK
A BRITISH labourer arrested at Luton Airport after the murder of a retired British engineer in the Dordogne is facing extradition to France.
French and British legal authorities are trying to decide whether to send Neil Ludlam, 30, back to France to face trial over the death of Peter Fuller, 67, or if he should be tried in the UK.
Yves Squercioni, the prosecutor in Périgueux, said they were waiting for the British authorities to decide: “They may decide to keep this case because of the nationality of both victim and accused.”
Mr Fuller had been battered round the head in a frenzied attack with a “blunt object”. His ex-wife and a friend found his body at his home near Plaisance, south of Bergerac.
Investigators said there were signs of a struggle in several rooms of Mr Fuller’s five-bedroom house.
Ludlum had worked there for three weeks as a handyman and he was arrested after flying in to Luton from Bordeaux-Mérignac airport.
Police said they were still searching for Mr Fuller’s Mercedes coupé which had been stolen from the house.
