French OAP homes cost more than pensions
Pensioners in France need to dip into their nesteggs to pay for retirement homes (Ehpads) – a study showed average costs are 36% higher than pensions.
Caisse Nationale de Solidarité pour l’Autonomie said Ehpad fees averaged €1,977 against a pension of €1,461, although some state benefits help with much of the cost.
Ehpad tariffs vary across the country.
