A calm week of weather is predicted for France. It comes after Storm Amy battered the north over the weekend with violent winds leaving two people dead.
The national average temperature is set to start below seasonal averages, but climb to slightly above before the end of the week.
Monday October 6
Clouds in the north and east are expected, and may bring showers around the Ardennes, but elsewhere there will be mostly sunny skies.
These clouds will persist throughout the day in areas close to the Belgian border, but are set to be blown away in central areas, leading to a sunny afternoon.
Temperatures will be at their coldest of the week, with highs of 16C to 18C in the north (down to 14C in the east), 20C in the south-west and up to 23C along the Mediterranean.
No weather warnings of any kind are currently issued.
Tuesday October 7
Tuesday will see sunny skies push into the north, leaving clouds only over the English Channel and along the German border.
Wispy clouds in the morning may be spotted in central areas but are likely to dissipate by midday. No rain is forecast anywhere in the country.
Temperatures will remain static along the Mediterranean, reaching around 23C once more, but the drop in force from the Mistral and Tramontane winds will make it feel less chilly than over the weekend.
Elsewhere, temperatures are on the rise, reaching up to 19C in the north, with some forecasters predicting up to 26C inland in the south-west.
Wednesday October 8
Cloudy skies will return to the north, but otherwise conditions will remain similar to Tuesday.
Temperatures will remain largely static – and maybe even climb a degree in the north – but otherwise they will be around about the same as on Tuesday.
Thursday October 9
An incoming high-pressure system from the British Isles will bring further clouds to the north, and drop temperatures back down to where they were on Monday..
Rain was previously forecast alongside the cloudy weather, however only light drizzle, if at all, is now forecast.
Southern areas will be unaffected and will continue to see plenty of sunshine and rising temperatures.
Despite the drop in temperatures in the north, they will climb in the centre and south-west, making Thursday the first day of the week where the national average temperature is slightly above the seasonal norm (by up to 1C.)
Friday October 10
Showers are likely to hit Normandy and Hauts-de-France in the morning, lasting until the afternoon.
Cloud coverage across France will be mixed, with wispier clouds in several areas before likely being blown away.
However, there are forecasts for fog, particularly in the plains of central France and mountain valleys, so local drivers should be careful.
Temperatures will remain mostly the same, but could rise up to 24C in the south-east.
Early weekend forecasts show a continuation of the calm weather, with plenty of sun expected across the country.
