Three French sporting personalities among 10 killed in collision during filming in Argentina
Three French sports stars including the Olympic gold-winning swimmer Camille Muffat are among 10 people killed in a helicopter crash in Argentina during the filming of a reality TV show.
Eight French nationals and two Argentine pilots died when their two helicopters collided. The cause of the crash is not yet known and weather conditions were good.
Muffat, 25, was one of the stars of the 2012 London Olympics, winning three medals.
Also killed were Florence Arthaud, 57, an accomplished yachtswoman, and Alexis Vastine, 28, who was an Olympic boxer.
The group were in Argentina filming the TV survival show Dropped. TF1 has suspended filming and is sending the production team and other contestants home.
President Hollande said in a statement: "The sudden death of our fellow French nationals is a cause of immense sadness."
Prime minister Manuel Valls said on Twitter: "The whole of France is in mourning today. Thoughts go to the families of the victims."
Other contestants on the show, who are unharmed, include swimmer Alain Bernard, cyclist Jeannie Longo, footballer Sylvain Wiltord, snowboarder Anne-Flore Marxer and skater Philippe Candeloro.
