More citizens will apply for French nationality
I found your figures on the numbers accepted for French nationality very interesting ( Citizenship test to get harder , May issue):
- 2015 – 88,608 accepted, of which 302 were British;
- 2018 – 77,778 accepted, of which 3,124 British.
I believe that 2019 figures will be even more interesting because of the lengthy time the procedure can take.
My husband and I started the application process immediately after the Brexit referendum in June 2016 and, despite having no hiccups at all, have just been accepted in March 2019.
I think that the 2019 figures, when released, will show a lot of British applications directly because of Brexit.
The councillor from Corrèze (I want to carry on as local councillor, May issue), who applied in October 2018, may expect a long wait and may not be able to stand for election in 2020.
We feel very happy to have reached the end of a very long waiting game.
