North remains on flooding alert
Météo France alert remains in place in the Nord, Aisne and Oise until Wednesday morning.
METEO France has extended its warning of heavy flooding in four departments in the north-east.
The Nord, Aisne, Ardennes and Oise are on alert until at least 6.00 on Wednesday as river levels in the area are at their highest levels in more than 15 years.
Some school transport has been cancelled and many people evacuated from their homes.
An earlier alert, covering the Moselle and Bas-Rhin, has been lifted.
Home owners living near a river have been urged to take precautions to protect their property.
Météo France also says that drivers and walkers should avoid roads and paths by the water's edge.
