POLICE in Paris have caught a 64-year-old man they believe responsible for a series of robberies involving drugged cake.

The voleur aux gâteaux carried out a series of burglaries on elderly people in the Paris area by charming his way into their homes and feeding them cakes laced with sleeping drugs.

Once the victims fell asleep, he stole their bank cards.

The robberies, which began in 2009, took place primarily around Montreuil, Bagnolet et Romainville.
