Unlimited web access not to cut

FEARS that internet service providers are looking at ways to “cap” users’ web access have been denied by leading ISPs and the government.

The ISPs admit alarm that 5% of heavy web users tak up more than 80% of online traffic with multimedia use and peer-to-peer filesharing but denied plans to cut “unlimited” web access.

Orange said talks with other operators had been “twisted” out of context and Bouygues said it was “never a plan”. The government “does not envisage any access restrictions”.
