Will French aid to buy a zero emission car drop in 2025?
French financial aid to buy new electric vehicles set to fall according to a leading auto magazine
Here is the list of electric cars eligible for aid in France in 2024
Vehicles made in France or the EU will be prioritised
The list of vehicles that people can buy with government aid has been released. We explain how this scheme works and present the 22 cars that are eligible.
President Macron announced the vehicles eligible for this bonus écologique, alongside the launch of the €100-per month rental scheme for electric cars on December 14.
In both schemes, almost all of the cars are produced in France or in Europe.
What is the scheme?
The bonus écologique scheme provides financial aid of up to €6,000 – or 27% of the cost of a vehicle – to buy a car with a low carbon footprint. It can also be used to lease an eligible vehicle.
The criteria include:
- An environmental rating based on the vehicle’s production and transport carbon emissions
- A purchase price of less than or equal to €47,000
- A weight less than or equal to 2,400kg.
The aid is not means tested, meaning anyone purchasing or leasing an eligible vehicle can apply for it.
While the aid previously also applied to used vehicles, President Macron confirmed that only new cars will be eligible.
Full information on the scheme can be found here.
