Rules if you are financially dependent on spouse
Visa applications can be linked if coming to France as a couple
All adult non-EU nationals in France need their own residency card, and even if you are dependent on another person, such as your spouse, you should each make a separate application.
If you are coming to France as a couple, you should indicate this when applying for a visa so that the applications can be linked. This also means that any prefecture visits, if necessary, can be offered at the same time.
With regard to proof of income and domicile in France (e.g. utility bills), if you are financially dependent on your spouse or partner, you will need to include bank statements and utility bills in their name, as well as proof of the relationship, such as a marriage or civil partnership certificate.
A signed statement from your partner confirming that you live with them at a specific address can also be provided. This is known as an attestation d’hébergement.
Official documents such as marriage certificates usually have to be translated by a sworn translator if they are not in French.
