Why was the health insurance policy not deemed suitable?

Since Brexit, my husband and I twice had six-month visas for France, but this time we were refused on grounds that our health insurance (AXA, Schengen ‘multi trip’) was unacceptable. Have you heard of anyone else having problems?

We are not aware of wide-spread problems with health insurance being reported. According to the ‘visa wizard’ tool, it is possible to have a long-stay visa for France for up to six months with a British Ghic/Ehic (free) travel health card as the main proof of health insurance.

The UK government, however, recommends supplementing this with a private travel policy for elements that it does not cover (click here and here)

AXA’s website states that the policy you mention is for trips of up to 90 days, which could be the reason for the refusal.
