Mr Macron was on a visit to the department to meet restaurant owners, ahead of the limited reopening of indoor restaurant spaces tomorrow (June 9).

Mr Macron approached a crowd of onlookers to greet them when the man attempted to slap the president. Mr Macron drew back from the blow and was quickly pulled away by security.

Two men have been arrested over the incident, le Service d'information et de relations publiques des armées told Franceinfo.
