French App in Focus: Le Club Bio
App that offers free gifts for buying organic
Le Club Bio promotes organic food and awards points to its 15,000 French users when they buy organic as they food-shop.
The points can then be swapped for free gifts, which are mainly extra organic food items but also include vouchers and food appliances such as breadmakers, kettles and blenders.
The app can be used in supermarkets or specialised bio shops but buying at an organic shop gives more points.
The app then sells on “consolidated data” – all the information combined on what products are bought and where, but not personal details – and thus is able to offer the gifts.
Connexion tested the app in Nice and it showed all the organic shops around the city, so it is easy to find one near you.
After buying 12 organic products in a supermarket and an organic shop and scanning everything, the app took a few days to validate our 140 points.
However, the first gift you can get costs 2,100 points, so it might take some time for those who do not buy only organic – though you can also get 500 points by recommending the app to friends.
