Lucky teens meet top scientists

A “Speed Sciences” day is being held for 100 selected young people at the Académie des Sciences

YOUNG people aged 16-20 will be able to quiz some of France’s top scientists during a “Speed Sciences” day at the prestigious Académie des Sciences this weekend.

A lucky 100 young science fans – chosen based on an online quiz and questionnaire - will get two hours of 10-minute one-to-one chats with people including Nobel Prize for Physics winner Serge Haroche at the event on Saturday.

The participants will also attend talks and a debate, have a tour of the academy’s historic building and have lunch with académiciens and other scientists at the top of their fields before the one-to-one talks.

The academy – part of the Institut de France along with the Académie Française - hopes that it will spark off vocations for science careers.

The Connexion will be in Paris to cover the event. Read about how it went in next month's issue.

It comes as the Fête de la Science continues this weekend, with activities around France aimed at all the family – lab visits, talks, games and displays etc. See: Fête de la Science.
