Physios offer advice on backpack

Physiotherapists were offering free sessions to give children advice on the problem of heavy schoolbags.

NEWS that physiotherapists were offering free sessions to give children advice and raise awareness of the problem of heavy schoolbags has sparked reaction from our readers. Annie Reid: Good! My daughter had terrible problems because of her school bag.

Lynda Beattie Eales: Can’t believe the weight of their school bags at times!!

Kerry Biddle-Chadwick: Why don’t parents get their kids the roll-on hand luggage bags? It has wheels on it.

Elisabeth Kruch: Every year the same polemic about the weight of the school bags... why can’t children leave most of their books at school?

Carolyn Moretto: This has been my concern for two years, it is crazy the weight of the school bags and the kids get bad backs, so I bought my kids bags on wheels this year. My daughter loves it, but the boys have covered the wheels over and still carry them on their backs as they say they will be bullied for having the wrong style bag!! The school used to have lockers, but they were vandalised and the school says there is no money to replace them! A MAYOR on the Riviera has said he has called in municipal police to start fining speeding cyclists on the promenade cyclepath as he fears a “serious accident”.

Colin Morley: Wish they could build proper dedicated bike lanes. It’s really dangerous if you’re hard of hearing and you simply don’t hear a speeding bike behind you. I absolutely dread walking where there are bikes whizzing past on the pavement.

Experience France: This would only make sense if all bikes were fitted with calibrated speedometers, otherwise how could a cyclist accurately monitor their speed? Fines for cycling behaviour that directly or indirectly results in injury or damage of property would seem more appropriate to me.

Christine Harajchi: Would be welcomed if the police would do something about the motorbikes and scooters instead!
