Lidl to open 30 new stores in France: see list of locations
Supermarket plans further expansion into French market over coming decade
German supermarket giant Lidl is set to open 30 new stores across France in the coming months as part of major expansion plans.
It is the final part of plans to open or refurbish 90 stores between March 2026 and February 2027, announced at the Salon international de l’agriculture event earlier this year.
Alongside these new supermarkets, the chain recently opened two new ‘Lidl outlet’ stores.
These stores, used to sell the chain’s unsold non-food items at discounts of up to 60%, have met with major success so far in France.
The two new stores – Marquette-lez-Lille (Nord) and Mauguio (Hérault) – are the fourth and fifth respectively to be opened in France, joining existing outlets in Saint-Pierre-du-Perray (Essonne), La Ciotat (Bouches-du-Rhône), and Drancy (Seine-Saint-Denis).
The supermarket is slowly gaining ground in France, and by most accounts is the sixth-most popular, with a market share of around 8%.
This is behind domestic giants such as Carrefour, E.Leclerc and Intermarché, but above rival Aldi.
Lidl aims to open 2,000 stores in France by 2035, a major expansion as only around 1,600 exist today.
