SNCF prepares autumn strikes

After a relatively quiet period, SNCF unions announce plans for more strikes after the summer break

TRAIN drivers and conductors are planning strikes after the summer break to protest about working conditions and a restructuring of the SNCF.

Four unions, the CGT, Unsa, Sud-Rail and CFDT, announced in a joint statement that the first of the nationwide strikes would be at the end of September or early October.

They are concerned about working conditions, retirement rights and the opening of the French rail network to competition.

The CGT is hoping for an industry-wide strike at the same time to call for a significant increase in the minimum wage to €1,700 per month.
