Masks are once again obligatory in many outdoor areas in 22 towns and cities in Finistère (Brittany) due to the increasing spread of Covid-19.

Morlaix, Quimper and Brest (except for beaches and some other areas) are included in the new ruling, issued due to “the persistent risk of infection in densely populated areas", the department’s prefecture states.

The measure is in effect between 09:00 and 22:00 and will be in place until August 31.

The number of cases has increased in the department in the past month. The incidence rate (the average rate of people positive for Covid out of 100,000 people) increased from 19 at the end of June to 90 on July 30.

Anyone caught breaking the mask wearing rule can face a fine of €135.
