From 2018, get €3 000 to replace your old fuel boiler

A new scheme giving homeowners up to €3 000 towards replacing their oil-burning fuel boilers with a wood-burning or gas alternative will come into force from 2018.

Previous schemes have offered cash incentives for the same thing, with existing grants capped at €1,300 for a change to a new biomass boiler model, and €800 for a gas- or wood-burning one.

From 2018, homeowners will now have access to this higher amount of €3,000, thanks to climate minister Nicolas Hulot’s plan to allow more normal-sized households to save energy, as reported in French news source Le Figaro.

The amount available will vary depending on the size of the household and the type of boiler installed, but at the minimum, everyone eligible will have access to at least €200 towards a highly-efficient gas boiler.

The French energy-saving scheme, under the certificats d’économies d’énergie (CEE), can then go on to help eligible homeowners apply for help with paying their heating and fuel costs, especially if they are in “fuel poverty” and are paying at least 10% of their household’s overall income towards heating and fuel.
