Another tough weekend is forecast on the roads in France from today as the second weekend in the August holiday season gets underway, ahead of the public Assomption holiday on Monday (August 15).

Tomorrow, Saturday, August 13 is forecast to be the most difficult day.

Traffic service Bison Futé has today (Friday, August 12) issued:

Friday, August 12: Yellow alerts (“difficult traffic”) in the ‘departure direction’ for the Ile-de-France and Paris region, and the southeast, and yellow alerts for the entire country in the ‘return direction’, rising to red (“very difficult traffic”) in the southeast.

Saturday, August 13: Red alerts across the whole country in both the departure and returning directions, and black alert (“extremely difficult traffic”) in the southeast for departure.

Sunday, August 14: No alerts for most of the country in both directions, except for a yellow alert in the very far southeast for departures, and yellow alerts for the southeast quarter of the country in the returning direction.

The ‘departure direction’ means heading away from major towns and tourist destinations, and the ‘returning direction’ means the opposite.
