Young people are smoking less and reducing their drug use, turning instead to electronic cigarettes.

Smoking by collège students (age 12-15) – when most try for the first time – was down 6% between 2014 and 2018, a study by the OFDT drug observatory group shows.
Over the same period, cannabis experimentation fell from 9.8% to 6.7% but its use starts to develop later at lycée, where a third of students have tried it.
The numbers of students vaping grew from 35% to 52%. Drinking figures were level.
