Smartphones make forests easy to use

SMARTPHONE users can discover hidden features of France’s 15.5million hectares of forests with a series of apps launched across the country.

Created by the Office National des Forêts to modernise their approach, the apps range from Clés de forêt that covers the whole country and teaches different leaf types and how to identify trees by their leaves, fruits and nuts. The app also shows animal footprints in the wild.

Apps have been created for different departments with the Charente Défi Forestier app giving a guide to Braconne forest while the Forêst de Fontainebleau app shows walking circuits as well as the history and nature people walk through.

The apps are for iPhone or Android and can be found at the ONF page
