Letters: France's new GP video consultation service is really effective

To the Editor,

I am surprised your recent article on GP shortages did not mention the new online téléconsultation avec un médecin service being rolled out in pharmacies by Medadom.

My wife and I used it recently to obtain a prescription I had forgotten to bring with me.

The service is super efficient and, as usual, the pharmacist was so well trained and helpful. She signed me in and completed the questionnaire.

It can be used by French nationals using their health card.

For foreigners, no health card details are required – just name, date and country of birth, a few questions about existing health and bingo. It is all done in 15 minutes.

It cost €32 for the consultation and then I paid for the prescription.

All the requisite forms to reclaim the costs are printed off.

What a service! No wonder people say the French medical system is so much better than the creaky NHS and pharmacy system in the UK.
