Never let it be said that The Connexion does not have its finger on the French cultural pulse – with this in mind, we bring news of the ‘next big thing’ on the music scene: singer/producer of electronic pop, Miki.

This is the stage name of Mikaela Helena Duplay, who has quite the cosmopolitan background: born in 1998 in Nice to a French aerospace engineer father and a Korean mother who is a communications manager and opera singer, she grew up in Luxembourg.

She assimilated her dad’s rock albums, learned the piano and violin at the conservatoire (before being expelled) and then immersed herself in hip-hop and indie rock.

As for her electronic music today, she is committed to every stage of its creation: writing lyrics, composing music, and even directing her videos in a DIY spirit.

She recently said in an interview that she likes “to tackle personal subjects while transporting my audience into my surreal worlds. I’m obsessed with planets and parallel worlds. These daydreams give me inner peace.”

Miki’s album, Industry Plant, is out now.
