Americans in France are called to gather in Paris and Nice on Saturday June 14 to protest against what organisers call the “creeping normalisation” of authoritarian rule in the United States.

Timed to coincide with a planned military parade in Washington DC, the No Kings / No Tyrants protest is one of more than 1,800 events taking place around the world on June 14 against the policies of US President Donald Trump.

The rally in Paris is taking place at Place de la Bastille, and in Nice on the Quai des Etats Unis near the miniature statue of Liberty on the Promenade des Anglais

Both rallies are co-organised by several France-based groups, including Indivisible Paris, Democrats Abroad and the Paris Coalition for US Democracy, which previously organised a protest on May 1

A giant inflatable balloon – dubbed the ‘Felon Don’ Trump Chicken – is expected to make its European debut at the Paris event, depicting the president as a golden-haired chicken wearing a prison jumpsuit behind bars.

“From the Boston Tea Party to the Bastille, democracy was built by people who stood up to tyranny,” said Zachary Miller, co-chair of the diversity caucus of Democrats Abroad France. “America will not trade our Constitution for a crown.”

Protesters in Paris will gather from 15:00 to 17:00 and are being invited to RSVP via Democrats Abroad. The event is peaceful and open to all, organisers say.

The event in Nice runs between 16:00 and 17:00.

The demonstrations come days after the controversial appointment of Charles Kushner as the new US ambassador to France

Mr Kushner, a real estate developer and close Trump ally, was confirmed by the US Senate despite a criminal record for tax evasion, witness tampering and illegal political donations.
